![]() ![]() Microsoft Community Contributor (MCC) 2011. I did a right-click to "connect" and specified the HP postscript driver. I cannot find the driver online for my Samsung ML 1710 printer. I ended up browsing the printer at \\192.168.1.2 where the printer showed up. I let it connect to a new printer port at (note the IPv4 is a sample address) \_ML-1740 and it resulted in a non-working printer. Note: I had a difficult time installing the HP driver since the installer wanted to connect my printer. HP Universal Print Driver for Windows - Postscript is the new driver I now use.Generate a PPD file for my printer - this is where many printers can be abstracted to generic postcript.Headless Raspberry Pi setup using the Raspberry PI OS Lite.This resulted in the printer being usable as a "generic postscript network printer." Here are some links to the steps I used. I used a Pi Zero W, set up CUPS, and added SMB. My driver showed up in the version 3 installation of the application. Download version 2 and execute the installer in winXP compatibility mode. This is HP’s official website to download the correct drivers free of cost for Windows and Mac. The current Samsung Universal Printer Driver is at version 3 which does not support my printer. It still works perfectly so I made an effort to keep it alive. ![]() Samsung sold their printer biz to HP and these printers are way past end-of-support. I picked up this little workhorse printer 17 years ago and it was really cheap. Telling a monochrome device to print letter-size 600dpi shouldn't be this difficult. This took me a while to figure out, so I thought I'd share something here that I wish would have showed up in my many google searches while trying to get this to work. ![]()
