With both of these two workarounds, you can absolutely circumvent the lack of a native Age of Empires for Mac. The other alternative is to install Windows on your Mac through Boot Camp (available only for Intel Macs) and run the game within Windows environment. We are talking about cloud gaming platforms, like Boosteroid or GeForce Now, which let you stream the game over the web. Not only that, but also one of the best ways to play this game on a Mac is very easy to set up and use. To play Random games go to single player/Skirmish/play and when your home page opens look for the little square in front of "custom maps" and click on it. You can also put Vanilla RMS into RM2 and RM3 and play them and TWC RMS into TAD but you can only play TAD RMS in TAD. You can not play later expansion version developed games in earlier expansion versions, mainly because of the "upgraded" units/features won't be recognized by earlier expansion versions. If it's TWC (the war chiefs), it's goes in RM2, and if it's TAD (the asian dynasty), it's goes in RM3. If it's a vanilla map (the original game), it's goes in my documents/my games/rm. When you download a file look in the upper right corner of the description for File Details and check the Similar to "random maps", you can only play a scenario in the version (or a newer one )it was developed in. All scenarios are downloaded to my documents/my games/scenarios.
